South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers will be out of action for approximately four weeks as he will undergo hand surgery in the next couple of days.
However, de Villiers is expected to be fully fit in time for South Africa’s home series against Australia, which gets underway on February 12.
“AB fractured his left hand during the IPL in 2011 after which he had a plate inserted to assist with recovery,” South Africa team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee said. “The plate has started to cause discomfort in his hand and will be surgically removed in the first week of January.
“The recovery period is usually three-four weeks and he should be ready in time for the series against Australia in February.”
