“Once again we pulled it back”
Australia pace bowler Ryan Harris has announced that the baggy greens have had a “pretty good day” after England finished on 226/6 at the end of the first day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
However, Harris also admitted that captain Michael Clarke was disappointed that the team had dropped three catches, two of which were off England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who is currently unbeaten on 67.
“It was difficult, I think Michael (Clarke) wanted to lose this (toss),” Harris said. “We didn’t start as well as we liked…once again we pulled it back and 6 for 220 the end of the day and with three chances down as well is a pretty good day (for us).”
Speaking about playing in front of a world record 91,092 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Harris said: “The boys in the team room are so pumped to have played in front of that many people. The noise at the end of the day when Mitchell Johnson was charging in was tremendous.”
