Lynn brought the heat to the Scorchers

The Brisbane Heat started their Big Bash League (BBL) campaign in style as batsman Chris Lynn absolutely demolished the Perth Scorchers’ bowling attack to give his side a three-wicket win.

Lynn was well supported by Alister McDermott and Ben Cutting, both of whom claimed three wickets.

Scorchers captain Simon Katich won the toss and elected to bat first.

However, Katich failed to take advantage of his decision as he was caught by Daniel Vettori at short fine leg off the bowling of McDermott for 10.

McDermott struck again in his next over as he clean bowled Sam Whiteman for six runs.

Shaun Marsh smashed a quickfire 37 off 30 balls, which included three boundaries, before being cleaned up by Cutting.

Adam Voges managed to score 19 runs before being caught behind off the bowling of Vettori.

Ashton Agar failed to have much of an impact with the bat as he was caught by Joe Burns at deep fine leg off the bowling of Cutting.

Nathan Coulter-Nile only amassed four runs before being caught by McDermott to become Cutting’s third victim of the match.

Jason Behrendorff scored eight runs before being caught by Cameron Gannon at fine leg off the bowling of McDermott.

The Scorchers managed to reach 151 at the end of their 20 overs thanks to a fantastic half-century by Mitchell Marsh.

Marsh’s unbeaten 57 came off 35 balls and included five boundaries and a six.

McDermott and Cutting were the pick of the Heat’s bowlers with three wickets apiece, while Vettori chipped in with one.

Chasing 152 to win, the Heat got off to a dreadful start as England import Craig Kieswetter was caught by Shaun Marsh at first slip off the bowling of Behrendorff.

Luke Pomersbach was the next to go as he was clean bowled by Coulter-Nile for just four runs.

Just two overs later, Burns was caught by Shaun Marsh at first slip off the bowling of Coulter-Nile for eight runs.

Daniel Christian only managed to score 13 runs before he was stumped by Whiteman off the bowling of Brad Hogg.

James Hopes and Lynn stemmed the bleeding with a 52-run partnership, during which Lynn registered his half-century, before Hopes was given out lbw to become Hogg’s second victim of the match.

Hogg picked up his third wicket in his next over as Vettori was stumped by Whiteman for only four runs.

Lynn failed to take the Heat across the finish line as he was brilliantly caught by Hogg at deep midwicket off the bowling of Coulter-Nile for 81.

Lynn’s sparkling innings of 81 came off 53 balls and included four boundaries and an incredible six maximums.

However, Cutting smashed a four the very next ball to give the Heat a three-wicket win.

Cutting finished unbeaten on 15 off seven deliveries, which included one boundary and a six.

Hogg and Coulter-Nile picked up three wickets each, while Behrendorff snapped up one.
