“There is no truth at all to these malicious and damaging comments”
Cricket South Africa have denied rumours and speculation that Graeme Smith threatened to step down as captain of the Test team if wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile was included in the final XI for the ongoing Test series against India.
“There is no truth at all to these malicious and damaging comments,” Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat said. “All selection procedures and protocols were followed in the selection of the squad and the playing XI, and were signed off by myself and Transformation Manager, Max Jordaan. As per CSA’s selection policy, the captain is not involved in selection.”
Cricket South Africa also confirmed that the rumour had been started by a group of fans via social networking sites.
