“Hopefully we can kick on and get Australia in a nice position”
Following his spectacular unbeaten century on the first day of the third Test in Perth, Australia batsman Steven Smith has admitted that “I was probably under a little bit of pressure so it was nice to get some runs”.
With Australia struggling at 143/5, Smith was involved in a game-changing 124-run partnership with wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, who scored 55 runs before being dismissed.
“We lost a few wickets there in the middle so it was nice to build a little partnership with Brad and then Mitch at the end,” he told Sky Sports. “He stroked the ball beautifully so hopefully we can come out in the morning and do more of the same.

“I am sure a few of the boys weren’t too happy with the shots they played to get out but that’s cricket. They had their day in the last couple of games and I’ve missed out so today I was pretty keen to cash in.”
