“There has been no breach of team protocol”

England batsman Kevin Pietersen and pace bowler Stuart Broad have been cleared of any wrongdoing after drinking at a bar in Adelaide till 3.30am.

The duo were enjoying themselves at the Zhivago bar until the early hours of the morning.

A Zhivago spokeswoman told the Advertiser that the pair were “extremely friendly” and were more than happy to chat with fans and have their photos taken.

“They were at the club most of the night enjoying a few drinks and the newly renovated venue,” she said.

One of the patrons at the bar said: “They were getting stuck in but by no means [did it get] messy.”

Since the team were given a day off after playing a two-day warm-up match against the Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI in the sweltering heat of Alice Springs, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that the pair had not broken team protocol in any way whatsoever.

“They are free to do as they please…they are grown men,” an ECB spokeswoman said. “There has been no breach of team protocol.”
