Dhoni nominated for Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year awards

Dhoni has been nominated for the Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year awards

After being named captain of the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI Team of the Year, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has also been nominated for the Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year awards.

Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara has also been nominated for those two awards, while South Africa’s Hashim Amla, England’s James Anderson and Australia’s Michael Clarke are in the running for the Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year awards.

Despite not being included in any of the Teams of the Year, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been shortlisted for the ODI Cricketer of the Year award.

The shortlist for the Emerging Cricketer of the Year award includes New Zealand’s Trent Boult, India’s Cheteshwar Pujara, England’s Joe Root and Australia’s Mitchell Starc.

In order to be eligible for the Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, players have to be under the age of 26 and have played less than five Tests and/or 10 ODIs and/or five Twenty20 Internationals at the start of the performance period.

The performance period being looked at is between August 7, 2012 and August 25, 2013.

The winners of these awards will be chosen by a panel that is headed by the ICC cricket committee chairman Anil Kumble.

The members of the panel include England’s Alec Stewart, New Zealand’s Catherine Campbell, Pakistan’s Waqar Younis and South Africa’s Graeme Pollock.
