“India is utilising him well at the top of the order and he has responded really well”
Legendary Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya has announced that India batsman Rohit Sharma “has responded really well” ever since captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave him the opportunity to open the batting.
Sharma recently became only the third cricketer in history to score a double century in an ODI.
“Rohit has always had potential but India is utilising him well at the top of the order and he has responded really well,” Jayasauriya said.
In the 25 ODIs he has played this year, Sharma has scored 1,159 runs at an impressive average of 55.19.
Meanwhile, Jayasuriya also stated that he was not a fan of the new ODI rules as they are extremely unfair on the bowlers and make life at the crease too easy for the batsmen.
“It’s lot easier now to get 200 in fifty-overs cricket with the new ODI rules and I am not in favor of two new balls in ODIs,” Jayasuriya said.
