“He obviously did a very good job for them the last time they were out here”
Australia all-rounder Steve Smith has admitted that the baggy greens have to keep a close eye on England pace bowler Chris Tremlett in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane as he is looking to prove that he should remain in the bowling attack for the rest of the series.
Smith added that Tremlett had been extremely effective with the ball when England travelled to the Land Down Under in 2010-11.
Tremlett took 17 wickets during that series at an incredible average of 23.35.
“He obviously did a very good job for them the last time they were out here,” Smith said. “He is definitely one we have to be wary of with his extra height and extra bounce.
“Their bowling attack is strong, all of them are experienced and we will have to bat well against them.”
Smith also noted that Australia will have to tread carefully when it comes to England vice-captain and wicketkeeper Matt Prior as he has the ability to turn the game around in almost no time at all.
Despite only amassing 133 runs at a dismal average of 19 in the last Ashes series, Smith stated that Australia should not underestimate Prior as he does not boast a Test average of 42.36 for no reason at all.
“He is an important player for them and has been for a long time,” Smith said. “He is certainly not one we take lightly, he can definitely get away from you with the bat so he is one we will have to target as well.”
