Anderson has returned to New Zealand to undergo immediate treatment
New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson has been ruled out for the remainder of the limited overs series against Sri Lanka after flying home due to a rib injury.
Anderson sustained the injury while bowling in the first ODI in Hambantota, but an MRI scan revealed no serious damage.
Anderson will begin his rehabilitation once he arrives back in New Zealand.
“Corey felt pain in his right side while bowling during the first ODI,” New Zealand physiotherapist Paul Close said. “Post-match assessment indicated a minor case of rib impingement.
“We decided it’s in Corey’s best interest to return home and focus on making a full recovery for the series against West Indies.”
It is understood that no replacement has been called up for Anderson.
