Legendary Australia opening batsman Justin Langer has announced that after having been beaten three times in a row, “England are probably laughing at Australia”.

Langer called on the national team to buck up and show some fight throughout the upcoming Ashes series as they need to stop England from defeating them four times in a row, a feat which they have not accomplished since the 1890s.

“We used to laugh at England, as England are probably laughing at Australia at the moment because once upon a time in series gone by we couldn’t believe how many times England chopped and changed the team,” Langer told Sky Sports. “They chopped and changed batsmen and it was all over the place, whereas we were always quite a settled team.

“As a player that was quite tough – it was good if you were in the team – but if you were trying to get into the team it was quite frustrating. That continuity was very important and a hallmark of Australia’s success. I think it’s a hallmark of England’s success at the moment.”
