Raja believes both India and Australia are playing “quality” cricket
Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja has disagreed with ex-Australia skipper Ian Chappell’s negative views on the ongoing India Australia limited overs series, stating that he believes “we have seen some quality batting and bowling”.
Raja added that this series would help Australia gain some much-needed confidence ahead of their Ashes series against England at home.
“People had said that Australia should not have played this series before the Ashes but I think it is going to help them and raise their confidence for the Ashes,” Raja said.
Raja also admitted that India’s bowlers seemed to be struggling against the Australian batsmen, which is quite surprising since they are usually extremely effective on home soil.
“We have seen some quality batting and bowling but I think India’s bowling is struggling a bit in the series,” he said.
The former Pakistan captain conceded that he was shocked when India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not make any changes to the team after Australia managed to amass a mammoth total of 359 in the second ODI in Jaipur.
“Some of the Indian bowlers are struggling for form and that is allowing Australia to get big scores,” he added.
Moving away from the India Australia series, Raja stated that he was pleased with Pakistan’s recent triumph over South Africa in the first Test in Abu Dhabi.
“It is good to see Pakistan bouncing back strongly after the loss to Zimbabwe but they will have to play even better to win the series with one Test remaining,” he said.
