There has been no word on when Donald will return

Just a few days after South Africa batsman Hashim Amla flew home to witness the birth of his second child, the Proteas’ bowling coach Allan Donald also returned home for an “extended leave of absence”.

South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee admitted that no one is “sure when he will return.”

Cricket South Africa have announced that Vincent Barnes, who is in charge of the high-performance programme, will take over for the time being.

Barnes used to be South Africa’s bowling coach during Mickey Arthur’s tenure as head coach.

He was then promoted to assistant coach when Corrie van Zyl replaced Arthur as head coach.

Barnes has been credited for developing South Africa’s bowling attack into one of the most formidable in all of cricket today.

Barnes also worked very closely with South Africa’s pace trio of Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel.
