Malik was the top-scorer in the inaugural edition of the CPL
Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has agreed to sign with the Hobart Hurricane for this year’s edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), which gets underway on December 20.
This will be Malik’s first appearance in the BBL.
“He’s an exciting player, a fast paced batsman who will likely bat in our middle order and he’ll add another option to our bowling stocks as well,” Damian Wright, the Hurricanes coach, said. “He is a quality player with a quality T20 record and his performances in the Caribbean Premier League suggest he’s in red-hot form right now.”
During his stint with the Barbados Tridents, Malik finished atop the run-scorers list in the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with 272 runs at a respectable average of 34.
In his cricketing career so far, Malik has played 134 Twenty20 matches and scored 3,396 runs at an average of 39.03.
He also boasts a strike rate of 123.31 and has taken 75 wickets at a brilliant average of 21.50.
“Those are impressive stats for someone who has played so many games in a format where you often have to place little value on your wicket in search of quick runs at the end of an innings,” Wright said.
The Hobart Hurricanes will start off their BBL campaign against the Adelaide Strikers on December 22 at the Bellerive Oval.
