Strauss requested not to be considered for the six-man shortlist

Former England captain Andrew Strauss has withdrawn from the race to replace Hugh Morris as the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) new managing director, according to a report in The Telegraph.

Strauss, who retired from international cricket last year, considered himself a perfect candidate for the job after having shadowed Morris this summer.

However, he requested not the considered for the six-man shortlist.

If Strauss had been appointed to the position, England coach Andy Flower would be reporting to the man who he worked alongside with for nearly four years.

Another issue the ECB have on their plates right now is the ongoing negotiations for new central contracts.

The national team’s central contracts expired on September 30 and the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) are continuing their negotiations with the ECB to have all the contracts finalised before the team travels to Australia on October 23 for the second leg of the Ashes series.
