Malinga and his wife are expecting a second child in the coming days

Sri Lanka pace maestro Lasith Malinga will miss the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), where he was supposed to represent the Mumbai Indians, and the national team’s tour of Zimbabwe next month due to personal commitments.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that they had been notified by Malinga about his leave of absence and Mumbai also announced that Malinga had let them know of his plans to withdraw from the CLT20.

“We haven’t had the time to approve his request yet, because we only got it from him on Friday,” SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga said. “But since it is a personal reason, I don’t think there will be any problem.”

Malinga requested a leave of absence since he and his wife are expecting a second child in the next few days or early next month.

The 30-year-old will not receive 20 per cent of his annual fees and will also lose out on match fees since he decided not to participate in the CLT20.
