Kohli is accused of breaching his endorsement contract with Nike
India vice-captain Virat Kohli has been issued an emergent notice by the Karnataka High Court after sports giant Nike announced that they would be suing him for breaching their endorsement contract.
Nike claimed that Kohli had breached their contract after refusing to be a brand ambassador till 2014.
The five-year contract, which was signed by Kohli in 2008, is extendable by one year.
According to the Indian Express, Kohli initially signed a contract with Nike from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007.
However, both parties agreed to a new deal from August 1, 2008 to July 31, 2013.
In a report published by The Hindu, Kohli was allegedly paid Rs.1.42 crore for the five-year contract, which did carry a one-year extension clause.
In its law suit against Kohli, Nike had requested the court to restrain the Indian vice-captain from signing or negotiating an endorsement deal with another company.
