“His reading of the game and his calmness in tough situations reminds me of Dhoni”
Legendary West Indies opening batsman and Barbados Tridents head coach Desmond Haynes has announced that all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who is the captain of the Barbados franchise, reminds him “a lot of Dhoni”.
Haynes noted that Pollard, just like India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, thrives in pressure situations by keeping his cool instead of getting overwhelmed.
“I was one of the men who supported the idea of Pollard being Barbados Tridents captain,” Haynes said. “I have seen him before during my short stints with the West Indies cricket team and I always thought that this was one guy who understands the game of cricket.”
When Pollard was initially announced as the captain of the Barbados Tridents, protests broke out across the city as many people were infuriated about the fact that Pollard, who is from Trinidad, was chosen to lead the franchise ahead of Dwayne Smith and Kirk Edwards, both of whom are from Barbados.
“Now that he is captain of the Barbados Tridents and we are working closely together I have gotten even more respect for him,” Haynes added. “Pollard reminds me a lot of Dhoni.
“I know that it is a big comparison but I know what I am saying. He is a leader on and off the field and is leading by example for his team to follow. His reading of the game and his calmness in tough situations reminds me of Dhoni.”
