Al Hasan’s six wickets helped Barbados skirt past Trinidad and Tobago
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan claimed six victims for six runs as the Barbados Tridents sneaked past the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel by four wickets in a thrilling low-scoring affair.
Trinidad and Tobago captain Dwayne Bravo won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, things didn’t go as planned for the Red Steel batsmen as the pace duo of Jason Holder and Shannon Gabriel removed their top order batsmen early into their innings.
Just as it looked as if things couldn’t get any worse, Al Hasan was brought into the attack and he wreaked havoc on the Trindad and Tobago middle and lower order batsmen.
In the end, the Red Steel were bowled out for a measly 52 runs with more than seven overs to spare.
Al Hasan finished with figures of four overs, one maiden, six runs and six wickets, while Gabriel and Holder both chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Chasing a very straightforward target of 53 to win, the Tridents made an excellent start as the opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Jonathan Carter put together a partnership of 25 runs before Carter was dismissed for 14 runs off six deliveries, which included two maximums.
Things went from bad to worse for the Tridents as their scorecard went from 25/1 to 39/6 in the space of four overs.
However, despite the major collapse, Barbados were able to claw their way across the finish line, thanks to an unbeaten 10 runs off eight deliveries, which included one boundary, by Ashley Nurse.
West Indies pace bowler Fidel Edwards was responsible for a majority of the damage, taking five wickets, while lanky spinner Sulieman Benn snapped up one wicket as well.
