Rudd and the entire cricketing community were astounded by Dharmasena’s decision
Australia Prime Minister Kevin Rudd let his anger and frustration be known via Twitter after Usman Khawaja’s highly controversial dismissal during the third Ashes Test at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Khawaja was given out after it was thought that he had edged a delivery to England wicketkeeper Matt Prior off the bowling of spinner Graeme Swann, but upon further review, there was insufficient evidence to support the claim.
However, instead of overturning the initial decision, the third umpire, Kumar Dharmasena, upheld it, which immediately stirred up quite a buzz on all social networking sites.
“I’ve just sat down to watch the test,” Rudd tweeted. “That was one of the worst cricket umpiring decisions I have ever seen.”
Former Australia spin king Shane Warne agreed with Rudd’s comments and added that Dharmasena’s decision was absolutely “ridiculous”.
