Dravid is confident Kohli will learn to control his temper as time goes by

India batting great Rahul Dravid has called on the cricketing community to stop trying to make comparisons between vice-captain Virat Kohli and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as they are “two very different people”.

Dravid noted that Kohli had barely made a mistake when being given the odd chance to lead the national team, but added that the 24-year-old would be judged by his own results when he replaces Dhoni as skipper.

“I think the mistake we shouldn’t make is comparing him to Dhoni,” Dravid told ESPNcricinfo. “They are two very different people. In the end Kohli is going to be judged by his results. If we keep looking back and say, ‘We want someone like Dhoni’, I don’t think we are going to get it.

“I think it’ll take a little bit of adjustment from the team as well.”

However, Dravid also stated that Kohli has to learn to control his aggression as time goes by after he was involved in a heated dispute with the on-field umpires during India’s recently concluded ODI series against Zimbabwe.

Kohli lashed out at the umpires after he was given out to a controversial catch, which earned him a negative image amongst many respected pundits and former players.

“The way he reacted to the catch incident, I felt he could have reacted differently,” Dravid said. “He’s always going to be different from Dhoni, more expressive, more the heart-on-the-line sort of guy, but with time, he’ll grow, he’ll learn, he’ll know when to temper himself down.”
