Gul is raring to make his international comeback

Pakistan pace bowler Umar Gul, who recently underwent a surgical procedure on his right knee, has announced that he will need at least four to six more weeks more to recuperate until he can make his international comeback.

Gul, who has been completing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, noted that he missed representing Pakistan and was eager to regain his spot in the national team.

“It has been a frustrating time for me and I miss being with the Pakistan team,” Gul said. “But right now I am just concentrating on regaining full fitness.”

Gul sustained his injury during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa earlier this year after he complained of severe pain and swelling in his right knee.

The veteran seamer was sent for an MRI scan, which revealed a tear in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus, along with patchy bone bruising on his right knee.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to send Gul to Australia for his surgery and the pace bowler now hopes that his injury woes are behind him.

“In South Africa and even before that the knee had started playing up and it did affect my bowling form and rhythm,” Gul said.

Speaking about Gul’s condition, PCB doctor Sohail Saleem said: “I would say he requires another four to six weeks before he can get back to bowling. Right now we have just started putting pressure on both his knees so it remains to be seen how he responds but his rehabilitation program has gone well so far. We will not rush things where his fitness is concerned.”
