Our tour of Zimbabwe is ‘less intense’ compared to the ‘hectic’ two months we have just endured, says Duncan Fletcher

India can have even more “fun” now that they have an unassailable 3-0 lead

India coach Duncan Fletcher believes that the national team’s ongoing tour of Zimbabwe is “less intense” compared to the two “hectic”, but successful, months they have just endured, in which they won the last ever Champions Trophy and a tri-series tournament that included Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

While India are looking to whitewash Zimbabwe in their ongoing series, Fletcher also noted that the players have come to have “a good time out here”.

“The past two months have been hectic, too much nerve-wracking stuff happened,” Fletcher said. “We are looking forward to a less intense tour here. I’m sure fans will enjoy the games.”

Interim captain Virat Kohli agreed with Fletcher’s comments, and said: “We are happy to be in Zimbabwe and also looking forward to having a good time out here. I believe that the games will be competitive. Our squad is a young one but we are out here to have fun.”

Despite already trailing 3-0 in the five-match ODI series, Zimbabwe coach Andy Waller is still hoping his side can pull off a shock victory over the ODI champions.

“[The] Guys are hugely excited by this,” Waller said. “It’s a great experience to them, hopefully all the hard work we put in last month is just going to pay off.”

Waller admitted to being impressed by the quality of cricket the Indian side have managed to produce, especially since they rested six of their regular players for the tour.

“I think they have so many cricket players (in India) and the guys that have come up are great and I don’t think there is a huge difference to be honest,” Waller said. “We know they are all very good cricketers, we don’t even look at it as a weakened side I am sure the guys who are replacing the guys who are staying behind are just as good.”
