Ajmal will target Gayle and Samuels during the upcoming series
Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has announced that he remains confident the national team will “bounce back” after their disgraceful showing in the recently concluded Champions Trophy, which saw them lose every single one of their matches.
Ajmal noted that the team would be seeking retribution during their upcoming series against the West Indies, who were the first team they lost to in the Champions Trophy.
“Don’t write us off,” Ajmal said. “We know people are very disappointed with our performance in England but we will make amends by performing better in the coming series.”
Besides not winning any of their matches, Pakistan were also unable to bat out their allotted 50 overs in any of the three matches either.
“The players were disheartened and upset with what happened. We let down our supporters in England,” Ajmal added. “But the team’s future is not bleak and we are capable of performing much better in the upcoming series.
“It’s not that the team didn’t try. Every player gave his best to lift the side. The conditions were very difficult and unfortunately we just didn’t click as a unit. On the other hand, the teams that adapted well achieved good results in the tournament. We will learn from our mistakes and bounce back quickly.”
With their Caribbean tour looming over the horizon, Ajmal stated that the West Indies are a team in excellent form and have a side stocked to the brim with quality players.
“West Indies have a good one day squad with some top players,” he said. “I am looking forward to bowling to their quality players like Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels.”
