Smith and Finch may join Marsh in Australia A’s tour

Australia batsman Shaun Marsh has announced that he will no longer be representing the Jamaica Tallawahs in the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as he has fully committed himself to Australia A’s tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The CPL is scheduled to get underway on July 30, while Australia A’s tour begins on July 18.

Due to Australia A’s tour clash with the CPL, other Australian players such as Steven Smith and Aaron Finch may be forced to withdraw from the Twenty20 tournament as well.

Smith is currently a part of the Antigua Hawkbills squad, while Finch is representing the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel.

“It is very unfortunate this has happened, but this is international cricket,” CPL CEO Damien O’Donohoe said. “We appreciate that schedules are extremely tight and we need to respect the national cricket commitments these players have.

“We are working with the franchise teams that will be affected and are seeking appropriate replacements to ensure they will be prepared for a competitive tournament come July 30.”
