Lee will replace Akram as Kolkata’s new bowling mentor
The Kolkata Knight Riders has announced that former Australia pace demon Brett Lee, who opens the attack for the franchise, will also be their bowling mentor for this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after ex-Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram decided to spend more time with his family.
Lee will now be under serious pressure as he takes over the dual responsibility role.
“We are fortunate that someone of the calibre of Brett Lee, who in addition to being a key member of the team, will also mentor the bowling unit,” Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore said in a statement. “The bowling unit and the entire team will benefit from Brett’s leadership in this area.”
Lee noted that he felt extremely honoured to be entrusted with such a large area of responsibility.
“The experience with KKR over the past three years has been fantastic,” Lee said. “We have become a closely-knit unit under the leadership of skipper Gautam Gambhir and Head Coach Trevor Bayliss. As we get ready for IPL 2013 as the defending champions, I am honoured to take on this additional responsibility.”
