A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Shane Jurgensen appointed as full-time Bangladesh coach

Jurgensen is hoping to make a dream start by helping Bangladesh upset Sri Lanka

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have announced that Shane Jurgensen has been appointed as the national team’s full-time head coach.

Jurgensen, 36, has agreed to coach the national team for the next 12 months and is hoping to make an impressive first impression as Bangladesh are currently battling Sri Lanka.

“Shane Jurgensen was the most suitable candidate among those who had applied for the position,” BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said. “The cricket operations committee will recommend his appointment till December 31 this year.”

Jurgensen became the interim head coach of Bangladesh after Richard Pybus resigned in October 2012 and the BCB decided that he would be the best person for the job after struggling to find many other candidates.

Jurgensen had been New Zealand’s bowling coach from 2008 to 2010 and had been a coach at New Zealand Cricket’s high performance programme until being appointed as Bangladesh’s bowling coach in October 2011.

The BCB also announced that Stuart Karpinnen, who is the trainer at the BCB’s National Cricket Academy, will be promoted to the same position, but only for the national team.

As of right now, the BCB are still looking for a suitable batting and fielding coach and are also hoping to hire a local to become the assistant coach.

“Stuart Karpinnen will be our trainer for Sri Lanka, I won’t mention names but we have lined up candidates for two specialist positions,” Yunus said. “The batting coach is someone from the UK and the fielding coach will be Australian.

“We will negotiate with them. If we don’t get the specialist positions from our list, we will take local coaches.

“We wanted a local assistant coach, for which four former national players have shown interest. We will advertise for the position so that others can apply.”

Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is scheduled to return as the team’s bowling consultant, despite the fact that he only wants to work 100 days a year.
