A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: I was never interested in coaching Bangladesh, says Carl Hooper

Hooper denied having any interest in the position whatsoever

Former West Indies captain Carl Hooper has revealed that he was never interested in coaching Bangladesh, contradicting what the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had said when they released the list of applicants for the job.

Hooper admitted to being asked if he was interested, but told the BCB that he was not.

“I was asked if I was interested, said I wasn’t and that was the last I heard of it,” Hooper told The Advertiser. “I was hoping Bangladesh would retract what they have apparently said that I was ‘interested in the job’. I have not applied and I am not interested. I am happy at Woodville.”

BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus had initially announced that Hooper was interested in the job after the board put up advertisements for the position, which was vacated by Richard Pybus last October.

Before considering any options, Hooper noted that he would always ask his family first since their safety is his top priority.

“I know there are a few things that might come up in South Australia or the Caribbean,” Hooper said. “My kids are settled here so I want to stay here if I can.

“There’s a lot of stuff in the air with SACA [South Australia Cricket Association] and the clubs. I always put my family first. That is why the Bangladesh thing is so far-fetched.”
