Warner believes Wade has received far too much criticism

Australia opening batsman David Warner has come to team-mate Matthew Wade’s rescue after the wicketkeeper was given a scathing review on his glovework by former player Ian Healy.

Warner branded Healy’s attack as “sad” and uncalled for.

Healy had slammed Wade for his below par keeping during the South Africa and Sri Lanka Test series, where he botched several stumping opportunities and dropped numerous catches behind the stumps.

The former player also noted that Wade was not a suitable Test keeper since he had not even mastered the basics yet.

However, in response to Healy’s comments, Warner stated that the ex-keeper should know better and added that he could have helped Wade by providing him “with a few tips rather than coming out in the papers (with that)”.

Warner also stated that Wade has always been criticised too harshly and believes that the wicketkeeper batsman is still yet to reach his prime.

The opening batsman added that being a wicketkeeper was an extremely tough job since there was no one else to blame if they were to make a mistake behind the stumps.

The flamboyant opener finished off by saying that Wade is more than qualified to be a Test keeper and is doing an exceptional job with both bat and gloves.
