Sutherland expects the rivalry between the two Melbourne-based franchises to only get more intense from here on

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has announced that the infamous brawl between West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels and local boy Shane Warne has resulted in the Big Bash League (BBL) becoming more competitive, thus making it a bigger hit amongst the fans as rivalries between different states have been created, and in some cases, are already starting to heat up.

However, Sutherland made it clear that he did not condone Warne’s actions in any way whatsoever, but added that the rivalry between the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades has by far become the most intense amongst all the franchises.

Sutherland also noted that the altercation had taken place since both teams were vying for top position on the standings.

Sutherland added that while all the players may be entertainers for the crowd, they also have to remember that they are role models for many of the young children that attend.

He further mentioned that it was only a matter of time before more rivalries are created and explained that this will bump up interest and attendance for all BBL matches in the future.
