A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Playing against England’s bowlers gave me a huge boost of confidence, says Cheteshwar Pujara

Pujara has already drawn comparisons between himself and Rahul Dravid

India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has announced that his batting and confidence levels have reached an all-time high after having a successful showing against the England bowlers in the four-Test series last year.

Pujara noted that his game had been elevated to another level after facing the likes of pace bowler James Anderson and spin duo Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar.

“When you have faced Anderson, it gives you a lot of confidence,” Pujara told ESPNcricinfo. “When you can play his reverse swing, this becomes easy. It is also about the experience of playing against some of the best spinners in the world, Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar.

“When I batted in the second Test in Mumbai [he made 135 in the first innings], the wicket was a square turner. If you face those kinds of spinners in those conditions, then this is easier.”

Pujara ended the Test series as India’s leading scorer with the bat, as he hit 438 runs at an outstanding average of 87.60.

The Indian batsman impressed everyone with his footwork and timing and drew high praise from both team managements for his calmness at the crease and the manner in which he handled the English spinners.
