The Sunrisers managed to re-sign nearly all of the players from the Deccan Chargers franchise
The new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise from Hyderabad has been named the Sunrisers by its owners, Sun TV Network.
The franchise, formerly known as the Deccan Chargers and owned by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited, changed hands in October last year.
Sun TV placed a winning bid of Rs 85.05 crores, which will be paid per year for five years, just a week after the Deccan Chargers had been terminated due to longstanding financial issues.
Sun TV Networks Limited, which is based in Chennai, is one of India’s biggest television networks, with 32 TV channels and 45 FM radio stations.
The Sunrisers managed to retain 20 players from the Deccan Chargers franchise, some of which include Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma and Jean Paul (JP) Duminy.
