A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: I feel as if Sachin Tendulkar is not enjoying playing cricket as much as he used to, says Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar believes that this could be the end of the road for Tendulkar

Legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar has revealed that he feels as if Sachin Tendulkar does not seem to enjoy playing cricket as much as he used to.

Given his poor performance throughout the four-Test series against England, Gavaskar noted that it was time for Tendulkar to start seriously thinking about whether he should continue playing or step aside to give someone else a chance to shine.

“The longest period on a cricket field is as a fielder and if Sachin is not enjoying that he will know that the time is right to go,” Gavaskar told NDTV. “Quite clearly, this series has not been a good one for him. I’s sure he will reassess the situation as he had promised before the season. He does not play T20Is and I’m not too sure whether he will play ODIs. So he does have time before [the] Australia series and you will have a decision sooner than later.”

Gavaskar noted that the national selectors should also have a word with Tendulkar about his future.

“They should talk to Sachin if they feel that he does not fit into the team,” Gavaskar added. “That is what they are paid for.”

Gavaskar stated that he saw “signs” of Tendulkar looking lost throughout the Test series, which makes him believe that this could be the end of the road for the ‘Little Master’.

“In this [fourth] Test in the second innings, Sachin did look a little bit lost,” Gavaskar said. “I have been watching him since 1989 and he has been in the thick of things always. Even if he is fielding in the deep, he is always involved. He might have had an injury here but [he] did look a little lost and that probably is a sign [of the end].”
