A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: I was absolutely amazed by Alastair Cook’s consistent form throughout the Test series against India, says Nick Compton

Compton believes Cook still has a bright future ahead of him

England opener Nick Compton has revealed that he was awestruck by captain and opening partner Alastair Cook’s consistent performances with the bat throughout the four-Test series against India.

Cook struck a total of three centuries during the Test series, which helped him surpass India’s Sachin Tendulkar in becoming the youngest batsman to complete 7000 runs in Test cricket at the age of 27.

The England captain’s 190 during the third Test at Kolkata was the 23rd of his Test career and also saw him become the country’s highest Test century maker.

“It was quite a moment,” Compton said. “It speaks volume about his abilities.

“He is so clinical, makes very few mistakes. He does it time and time again and for longer periods, that’s the sign of a very serious player.”

Compton also noted that having a relaxed opening partner like Cook at the other end helped him concentrate and score more runs.

“He is very clear and seems to know what he is doing, what he must do, very unflappable,” Compton added. “Having a partner so chilled out at the other does help you. He is so solid. It gives the other guys so much confidence. You know he is not going to give up.

“He is very clear in his game plan and very positive. He has taken his game to the next level which is clearly reflected by the six he hit.”

Compton admitted that it was an absolute privilege to get the opportunity of batting alongside Cook and added that the England captain would continue having a lot of success in the future if he keeps playing the way he is at the moment.

“Cook is tough and unflappable,” Compton said. “We have a very good bonding even though we don’t say much things in the middle. A look there…a little nod. I really enjoyed my time at the middle with him.”
