Gaekwad feels as if Sehwag has failed to show his true potential
Former India cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad believes that opening batsman Virender Sehwag has failed to show his full potential throughout the ongoing four-Test series against England, despite scoring an outstanding century in the first Test at Ahmedabad.
Gaekwad was India’s head coach when Sehwag made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Mohali in April 1999.
“If you ask me, Sehwag hasn’t done complete justice to his enormous talent… I mean, keep the orthodox Sachin Tendulkar to one side, and I haven’t seen anybody like Sehwag,” Gaekwad told The Telegraph.
Gaekwad also noted that Sehwag could have accomplished a lot more during his international career had he lived up and played to his full potential.
“In my view, had Sehwag actually played to his full potential, then he could have achieved three-four times more… Easily… That’s the enormous ability he has,” Gaekwad added. “However, I shouldn’t be misunderstood… It’s just that I feel he hasn’t done justice to his special talent… No footwork, but what hand-eye coordination!”
