Lorgat is determined to ensure that the Sri Lankan government stops interfering with cricketing matters
Former International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat has called for an end to government interference in Sri Lanka’s cricketing matters in order to improve the quality of the game in the country.
As of right now, the law in Sri Lanka states that all the players in the national team have to be formally approved by the minister of sports before they can play a series at home or abroad.
Lorgat, who was hired by Sri Lanka Cricket to seek out any areas of improvement, has already noticed nine problems affecting the sport and gave 24 recommendations on how to solve those issues.
“Numerous comments infer that the minister appoints the entire selection panel,” Sports24 quoted Lorgat as saying.
Sri Lanka Cricket have not had an election in seven years and throughout that time, government appointees have run the board, until this year when the ICC made it mandatory for all member nations to elect the leader of the country’s cricket board.
However, the system of electing officials may not be enough to solve Sri Lanka’s woes since a group favoured by the government are currently in charge of the board after a rival group withdrew from the election race, stating that it had been flawed and the votes had been rigged.

Good one..
