Qasim has warned senior players that their spot on the national team is not guaranteed any more
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief selector Iqbal Qasim has revealed that no national team player, including the likes of senior veterans such as Shahid Afridi, are guaranteed a spot on the roster for the upcoming limited overs tour of India.
Afridi has been an automatic selection in the past, but with his constant batting failures as of late, the former captain will have to find a way to convince the selectors over why they should include him in the squad for the India series.
Qasim noted that players would be selected on their form as of late and if senior players are not in good touch, then they will not be included in the team.
The Nation quoted Qasim as saying: “Afridi needs to perform in domestic matches to give the selectors a solid reason for his inclusion in squad for a short series against India.”
Qasim also stated that he and the other selectors would be closely monitoring how players perform in the National Twenty20 Cup and added that this would help decide which players go to India and which of them miss out.
“The National Twenty20 Cup will help the selectors to pick the best players up for Pakistan’s eagerly-awaited tour of India,” Qasim said.
