McDermott believes Australia’s pace attack will dictate the outcome of the final Test
With the epic final Test match between South Africa and Australia just around the corner, former Australian bowling coach Craig McDermott has called on the national team’s pace attack to keep their cool and try to draw the Proteas batsmen into playing rash shots by bowling a consistent line and length.
McDermott noted that he was worried with Australia’s bowling display during the last two Test matches at Brisbane and Adelaide.
Speaking exclusively to News Limited, McDermott said: “It was a tough for the boys. They’re disappointed with the way they bowled, our lines weren’t as patient and persistent as they should have been and I’m sure they’re thinking about that. We bowled a bit too short and a bit too straight.”
McDermott has called on the pace attack to keep the ball on and around off-stump, which he believes will pose problems for the South African batsmen early into their innings.
“You have to make sure you bowl the correct line, not getting too straight and dont try to chase the perfect ball that pitches on middle stump and hits off,” McDermott said. “You have to bowl a fourth stump line and make the batsman come to you, my belief is you should us them as much as you possibly can to mix the batsman’s footwork up. You get them thinking ‘should I go forward to the next ball or am I going to get one up my beak.”
