A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: We need to ensure that the pace bowlers get enough rest before the start of the Ashes, says Ali de Winter

De Winter wants to see Australia’s pace attack fit and healthy all year round

Australia bowling coach Ali de Winter has announced that the national team’s pace bowling attack must be given adequate rest before the start of their Ashes campaign next year.

In the past couple of years, almost every single one of Australia’s frontline seam bowlers have succumbed to serious injuries and de Winter is sick and tired of seeing the bowling attack constantly weakened due to the bowlers being overworked.

De Winter also noted that it would be best if a rotation policy became mandatory in order to limit the workload and reduce the possibility of Australia’s pace attack constantly being at a disadvantage with key members out of the lineup due to serious injuries.

“The Ashes is our Olympics and after this South African series, everything we do will have one eye towards the Ashes,” News.com.au quoted De Winter as saying. “The fast bowlers are really buying into that idea, the fast bowlers realise that they can’t play all forms of cricket all of the time and one thing we know is the schedule is not getting any easier.

“So we are looking at some strategic methods to ensure that everything is working towards the best preparation for the Ashes. It will involve some fast bowlers taking some time out – taking a step back and getting a window to re-invest in their physical or technical or mental maintenance.”
