Azharuddin is pleased to have finally put this issue to rest

The Andra Pradesh High Court has finally lifted former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s life ban, which was imposed on him almost 12 years ago.

Azharuddin was handed down a life ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on December 5 2000 after being found guilty of match-fixing.

Since being banned, Azharuddin has not taken part in any cricketing activities, and is now a veteran politician in the Uttar Pradesh Moradabad constituency.

The former captain stated that he was pleased his life ban had been lifted and added that he would not be taking any more legal action.

“It was a long drawn out legal case and it was painful. We fought in the court for 11 years. Finally the verdict has come and I am happy that the ban has been lifted by the court. I am not going to take any legal action against any authority and I don’t want to blame anybody for this also. Whatever had to happen has happened. I don’t have any complaint,” Azharuddin said.

As of right now, the BCCI are not planning to take any action against Azharuddin as well.

BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said: “It would be premature to comment till our legal team goes through the court order.”
