Gilchrist is one of many Australian cricketers to have been awarded the Australia Order of Merit in the past

Legendary Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has announced that he fully supports his government’s decision to award iconic Indian batsman Sachin Tedndulkar the Australia Order of Merit.

Gilchrist believes that Tendulkar’s record in Australia is absolutely outstanding, and added that there would be no other cricketer who deserved it more than him.

“The award indicates his high standing in both countries. I sent him a message welcoming him. We are fortunate to have him,” Gilchrist said.

When asked about Tendulkar’s form in recent series and whether he should retire from international cricket, Gilchrist said: “I am sure he (Tendulkar) is aware that he is not at the peak of his career, but he warrants a place in the side. It is up to him to decide (about his career).”
