Finn believes Cook will be one of the best captains England ever produced
England pace bowler Steven Finn has backed captain Alastair Cook to reclaim the number one Test team ranking ahead of their Test series against India.
Cook’s first task of beating India in their own backyard is going to be easier said than done since England have not won a Test series in the country since 1985.
Finn, who is the youngest English bowler to reach the milestone of 50 Test wickets, stated that the whole team must help Cook in having a successful opening series as captain.
The Daily Mirror quoted Finn as saying: “He has been a great leader, which is why he’s now Test captain, he has got all the credentials, he’s very calm, he’s an experienced player and he makes good decisions, it’s a great time for us to start playing a really good brand of Test cricket and Cooky will run the side in his own individual way and we’re all going to get behind him.”
Finn also noted that he was just six months old when iconic Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut, and added that he could not wait to bowl to the ‘Little Master’.
“He’s a great of the game and it’s very exciting to be able to come against these people. I grew up watching Tendulkar on television, so to be playing against him will be an incredible experience,” Finn said.
