A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: Sunil Gavaskar awarded BCCI’s lifetime achievement award

Gavaskar was well known for his near-perfect batting technique and timing

Legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar has been awarded the 2012 CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

As a result, Gavaskar will receive Rs 25 lakh (approx US$46,600), a trophy and a citation at a BCCI awards ceremony.

The prize money received was increased from the previous amount of Rs 15 lakh (approx US$28,000) last year, which Ajit Wadekar was given.

Gavaskar is widely seen as one of greatest batsmen India ever produced, and he even held the record for the most Test runs scored at one point, with 10,122, and the most centuries scored in the longer format as well, with 34.

Since his retirement from international cricket, Gavaskar has worked in various roles at the BCCI and International Cricket Council (ICC), and he is now a well known and highly respected commentator.

The award is only given to players who have contributed and dedicated their lives to Indian cricket.
