Ranchi will host its first international match on January 19
The International Cricket Council (ICC) have officially approved the newly constructed HEC International Stadium in Ranchi to host its first international cricket match on January 19, which will be the third ODI between England and India.
The ICC inspection team, which was headed by David Boon, inspected the location, facilities and security and were impressed with what they saw.
A three-member team from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also inspected the stadium and gave the green light for the third ODI to take place there.
Ranchi is the hometown of India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and has yet to host a single first-class or List A game.
Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) president Amitabh Choudhary said: “The ICC had given the green signal to hold the ODI four days ago. The last time Jharkhand had hosted an ODI was in 2006 against England (in Jamshedpur), and there is every possibility of Dhoni leading India on his home soil for the first time.”
