India and England have not played a Test match at Eden Gardens for nearly 20 years
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have sent officials to inspect the conditions, facilities and security arrangements at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium ahead of the upcoming Test series between England and India.
The Test series between both nations is scheduled to begin in November and the ODI series will be played after the new year holidays.
After their inspection of the ground, the ECB officials stated that they were highly impressed with the arrangements that had been made for both the players and the spectators.
ECB director for operations John Carr noted that all English and Indian fans would be eagerly anticipating the Test match at Eden Gardens since both nations have not played each other at that venue in nearly two decades.
“Yes, we played an ODI and T20 international last year. So, are familiar with the venue and further inspection has taken place. So, the facilities here are all very satisfactory, and, I think, its fair to say, we had a good experience here in terms of the arrangements of the games last year. So, I think, everything is in place,” Carr said.
Carr also explained that their inspection was just a formality and added that the ECB were extremely excited to see the national team play at the venue after such a long time.
“When we do overseas tours we conduct pre tour visit, visiting all the venues where matches are to be played and we are obviously very pleased that the test match is being scheduled for Kolkata,” Carr said.
England will play four Test matches and five ODIs against India.
