A BATTING WITH BIMAL BREAKING REPORT: South Africa likely to include two wicketkeepers in Australia tour after AB de Villiers’ injury

South Africa are hoping that de Villiers will be fit in time for the Australia series

With their tour of Australia getting ever closer, South Africa have announced that it is highly likely they will be selecting two wicketkeepers for their tour after AB de Villiers re-aggravated two of his old injuries during the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20.

The convener of national selectors Andrew Hudson stated that he and the other selectors would be discussing whether it would be wise for de Villiers to don the keeping gloves over all three formats of the game.

Sports24 quoted Hudson as saying: “AB needs to be managed, and we will call it as we go, constantly (re-assessing) him during the series.”

The number one Test team ranking will be up for grabs in the series, which starts in Brisbane on November 9 till 13 before moving to Adelaide on November 22-26 and ending in Perth from November 30-December 4.

As of right now, South Africa are extremely concerned about the fitness and health of de Villiers, who is one of the main players in the national squad, and will be keeping a close eye on his lower back and ankle injuries.

De Villiers was immediately ruled out of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) and South Africa team manager and medical doctor Mohammed Moosajee stated that “if we don’t manage him properly he could be out (of the tour)”.

If de Villiers is forced to miss the Australia tour, it is highly likely that South Africa will call on Thami Tsolekile, who replaced Mark Boucher after his freak career-ending eye injury, to put on the gloves during the three-Test series.
