Spooner stated that the matter had been resolved
The West Indies team was involved in some controversy before their semi-final match against Australia after police arrested three women, who, according to the team management, had been guests of the players.
The three women, all British nationals, were arrested in Colombo and released on bail, and the West Indies team management have announced that the issue has been wrapped up.
“Ministerial Security Division (MSD) guards assigned to protect the players carried out the arrest and the three women were handed over to the Kollupitiya police station for further investigations,” a police statement said.
Speaking exclusively to ESPNcricinfo, West Indies media manager Philip Spooner: “As far as the West Indies team is concerned there was an incident that was handled by the police, it is being reported as a Chris Gayle issue. It is not a Chris Gayle issue. The matter was dealt with by the police and it is now closed.”
