Hafeez believes the top order batsmen need to choose their shots more carefully
Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez believes that the one area in which his team has to improve upon during the rest of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 is getting good starts when chasing big totals.
Pakistan have been in good form recently after having beat Australia in a Twenty20 series just before the start of the World Twenty20.
“There is a concern in chasing a target but I am confident that we will improve and do well,” Hafeez said.
Hafeez also wants his squad to be more energetic during their chases and believes that too many of the top order batsmen are throwing their wickets away by playing rash shots.
Just yesterday, Pakistan produced an outstanding come from behind victory against South Africa, and Hafeez wants his team to carry on the momentum into the next game against arch-rivals India.
“Our momentum is good and we want to carry over that winning momentum, Twenty20 cricket is all about doing right things at the right time and I am sure the boys will do that,” Hafeez said.
Despite being constantly asked whether Imran Nazir deserved to be in the squad, Hafeez continues to defend his decision and said: “Nazir is a Twenty20 specialist and I am confident of his talent. He will surely be disappointed with his efforts so far but hopefully he will do well in the World Twenty20.”
