Laxman refused to comment about his relationship with Dhoni
Once Indian batsman VVS Laxman announced his retirement to the cricketing community, almost immediately there was speculation that his relationship with current India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni could have been a factor as to why he decided to retire.
“There was no controversy at all… I don’t want to speak anything about it,” Laxman said.
The speculation started on the day Laxman announced his retirement, when the 16-year veteran stated that he was unable to get in touch with Dhoni to tell him of his decision.
The speculation grew after Dhoni admitted that he had not been invited to Laxman’s house for dinner, even though many of the other senior members in the team were.
Laxman, who was supposed to be in India’s Test squad for the two Test series against New Zealand, noted that he had been unable to watch India’s convincing win in his hometown of Hyderabad since his children were not feeling well.
“I wanted to go to the stadium on Saturday but it rained heavily and I had to abort my plan. Yesterday, also I had plans to go there. But both my kids were down with fever. I watched the entire match at home. It’s good to see boys doing well,” Laxman said.
