Steyn has troubled the England batsmen throughout the Test series
South Africa pace bowler Dale Steyn has announced that he believes his team is the true number one Test side instead of England, who he branded as phoney.
England captain Andrew Strauss and coach Andy Flower are currently facing a crisis as the nation’s number one Test team ranking is in dire straits since South Africa hold on to a 1-0 lead in the current Test series with only one Test to go.
“I think we’re the No 1 Test team in the world. We have all our bases covered, and I don’t worry about England. Now we need it on paper,” Steyn said.
England lost to South Africa in the first Test at The Oval by an innings and 12 runs, while the second Test at Leeds ended in a draw.
After being whitewashed by Pakistan 3-0 and drawing their Test series against Sri Lanka 1-1, England’s current series against South Africa has been even more of a humiliation since their number one Test team title is on the line.
England’s loss in the first Test was arguably one of the worst defeats they have suffered in their entire history.
Since becoming the top Test team after crushing India 4-0 in a Test series, England have not been as dominant, and their confidence has suffered as a result.
England have struggled to win on slower pitches in the past, and it is no surprise they struggled at The Oval, since the pitch kept low and did not have much in it.
